Rarely has one month’s inflation figure created so much interest! Data released yesterday shows that inflation in the UK dropped to 6.8% from 7.9% in June meaning that although prices are continuing to rise, they are rising at a much slower rate. Controlling inflation has been the major factor in the Bank of England’s decisions to continue to raise interest rates so many analysts believe that we are close to the peak of base rate rises.
Last week’s GDP figures also beat expectations, meaning the prospect of a recession has also now become more remote.
